Hi guys... thanks a lot for letting me know of its weakness! Can the straps be replaced easily? I dun know cos I've not used a volo before. My instructor used them and he said that it was very good and suggested me to get one. So buddies... if you come across a 2nd hand one.... please let me know! Thanks a zillion in advance! :):thanks:

Hi!

Currently using a pair of volo fins too. understand that lots of reefers here prefer jetfins??!!

Found my pair to be extremely effective in strong current, light on the legs, comfortable to move around (underwater that is!) , and generally cant seem to find fault with them.

Tho i have to admit i have yet to try any high end split fins that i presume will be in the same price range. Wouldnt know which is better.

As for the weak links that fellow divers have pointed out... dunnoe leh. havnt had problems with mine yet. Does look more flimsy compared with traditional thick solid stiff fins. But as i dont like to use so much strength kicking underwater, i chose a "flimsier" outfit. Guess the price to pay for being lazy like me is to take extra care with the fins during storage?

Happy diving!

Cant remember.. had them since mid last year. Think i got it for $170.

Am pretty please with them so far. But dont take my word for it. if have a chance, borrow a few different pairs of fins from your fellow divers and have a go at them.

have fun finning!

Hi guys... I'm getting a little confused... I heard from some divers that the volo is supposed to reduce drag and in the event of any strong currents, using it can reduce stress to the toes and ankle. So, the ultimate conclusion is... does volo helps in strong currents to prevent strain in finning (ie, fight like hell in current)? Thanks!

In my opinion, with appropriate techniques, finning with the volo fins are almost effortless. Current or not. For the same stride that one takes (legs straight/scissors movement), the strain on toes and ankles are significantly lesser than that of other makes that I have tried. (bear in mind i'm no industry expert and have personally only used 5-6 different types of fins).

So in the event of strong current, its just means that you will need to complete a full 'kick' within a shorter time frame or more kicks/minute per se. In short, strain on ankles and toes are mainly caused by how much water resistense the fins and you actually create.

So design of fins can be extremely varied, and the results too. depending on wat type of diving you are planning to do, get a pair that will match your needs.

I met strong current (the dive guide estimate at 4knots) while diving in manado last year, and i'm sure glad i had my volo fins to help both myself and my buddy.

i'm not too sure, but i figured that:

strong legs=stiffer/tougher fins to maximise the strong leg muscles

not so strong legs=more flexible, forgiving fins to reduce strain and efforts

my philosophy: Diving is to have fun, relax, enjoy the scene, weightlessness etc and not about fighting currents or zooming here and there like competing for fastest swimmer. yet to be safe, or at least allowing one to dive in most places and most conditions, a pair of good fins will be a good investment.

Lets get wet! safe diving!

Unless you are going to be finning long distances in the shortest possible timings, whatever fin you use is going to play only a small part of the total effort used.

Ultimately, improving your stroke and muscular strength is going to provide a much greater benefit than any fin can possibly give.

On saying that, it is important to get a pair that is comfortable
