Everyone,

Is anyone using Hanna Checker , HI758 Checker HC - MARINE Calcium?

Is this tester reliable? Worth buying it? Currently using NYOS tester

For ca kh and mg dont need hanna. Salifert or nyos is fine.

I am using Hanna to measure Alkalinity KH which I think is important to be accurate and also it's easy to measure using Hanna.

The cost is lower for Salifert compare to Hanna. Gets you the reading you need, gets the job done.

I have two Hanna checkers. One for alkalinity and one for phosphates. Once the reagents run out, you basically have a white elephant until you restock them. And the ones given in the kit actually cannot last you for long. That's the drawback for using a Hanna checker. These days I use the Nyos phosphates test kit to measure, and then put the solution into the Hanna checker to counter check. Haha.

Thanks all. I am happy with NYOS tester for Mg, Alk, Nitrate but have tough time with calcium.
From the replies, i see Mixed feelings.
Key note, Hanna is not cost efficient, got digital readout. Need to sleep over it

May I ask what is the headache u get from Nyos calcium test kit? Maybe we can help u with a correct dose of pain killer haha

I agree for the calcium test kit it does not change the color very significantly. I too had to do the test twice to be sure.

NYOS calcium test kit you got to be really patience and drip and swirl until it really turns blue.

The pink is very light and translucent and the blue the same. Can't even see properly whether its changed to blue.

I can't get the solution to turn blue even after dosing 1ml of component 3. Tough to use for Nyos Calcium Test Kit.

The easiest is still Salifert

Salfert test kit always shows undetectable phosphate since The 1st test. I really doubt the reading is correct.

Joboh, I am referring to Calcium. Do you use Salifert and is able to detect Calcium easily?

For phosphate, I am using FM Pro kit which is easy and reasonably accurate.

Did some searching on Internet and realised that Nyos Calcium Test Kit tends to give high reading, which what I am facing too.
Looks like I need to switch to another type of Test Kit.

No problem for calcium reading.  Think I have to switch to FM pro kit for phosphate testing to have a piece of mind.

For a more accurate reading, I usually test twice when in doubt and take the average of two reading (if is different reading) to determine the result
