Weapon_Master
Probably silly question but was just curious if people tend to turn off their powerhead or cannister filter during feeding. I always turn them off because my clown fish seems to be having difficulty eating the food when the pump is on. Their terriority happens to be very near to the outlet of the pump. I understand from Henry from ML that it is better to feed Anthias with the powerhead or pump on to simulate their natural feeding habit and environment. However my clown fish seems to be too slow for this and I dont have any anthias in my tank. Lets see what the outcome will be.
lightningstrike
No. i dun turn them off. but i always start feeding from a area where there is lower flow. silverfish
In theory, will the powerhead be damaged if it is repeatedly turned on/off?

SRC Member Volitan Posted March 26, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 26, 2004 I deliberately place the food near the current flow to be dispersed all over, so that all my fishes could get some share.
SRC Member Guinness Posted March 26, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 26, 2004 In theory, will the powerhead be damaged if it is repeatedly turned on/off? In theory, each time any engine starts, wear is at it's greatest. However, in practice it really is minimal. Can you imagine the guy who owns a Ferrari and will not switch off his engine for fear of greater wear??? _____________________ I null vote for the topic cos, i off pumps when i target feed my inverts but the fishies have to chase their meal as it is pushed around (more fun to watch )

SRC Member Tanzy Posted March 26, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 26, 2004 Without currents, my anthias won't feed. It needs to be tricked into thinking that the frozen food is alive. SRC Member junyong84 Posted March 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 27, 2004 In my case...nah...the powerhead helps to spread the food around the tank so tat every fish gets to eat...
SRC Member Golden Tooth Posted March 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 27, 2004 I turned off the PH during feeding. The return flow from the sump is enough to disperse the food around n make the fish work for it. Quote Bevor Sie das Licht sehen, müssen Sie sterben! terryansimon
I don't bother to even use the "food timer" function on my Tunze. I like to see my fish "fly" through water to eat. more. natural? and besides, my anthias wouldn't eat the food if it sank right down infront of them. they need to be convinced that the food is actually a moving target before they move in for the kill. cute little buggers. my purple tile also. and my tangs also. aiyah heck, all my fishes also lah.
