Does bottled nitrifying bacteria really works?

Recently i bought a bottle of fritz zyme 9 and added the stated amount into my cycling tank . I did a ammonia test after 24 hours . But what i notice is that the ammonia level is stuck at the range of 0.25 to 0.5 , same as before adding the bacteria in . I thought the bacteria is suppose to eliminate the ammonia? Im new to the hobby so i dont really know how long it will take or if its even working.. the instructions stated that it is safe to instantly add fish to the tank? Im wondering if this means if i use this bottle of bacteria , i have to add a hardy fish to do a fish-in cycle? Im so confused right now

The bacteria need bio media to be able to host into and grow. Do you have enough biological media in your tank for the bacteria to host on to?

Perhaps sharing a photo of your setup here will help us guide you.

hey, this might sound stupid but did you shake the bottle well before pouring out the content?

In addition, i find that when you add bacteria, its good to switch off the wave makers and return pump, mix with some tank water before pouring everything in. that way there is time for the bacteria to settle on media, otherwise it might get skimmed out by the protein skimmer.

i've been dosing fritz zyme 9, microbacter 7 and occasionally prodibio. seem to work well for my tank, although i didn't test for ammonia, only nitrite and nitrate. if all else fail, add more and see if it works. hope this helps
