Hey....i have a huge anemone......about 6 inches in diameter.......

I just fed it and fed it and fed it.........

so that is like 3 krill prawns in 1 day...........

is there such thing as over feeding it?????

Why feed so much? U will end up high ammonia and nitrite spikes.

I shall elaborate...If they are fed daily, more than what exceeds what they can handle, their nematocysts will mostly be fired. Replacment of nematocysts uses up alot of energy reserves from the anemone, so does digesting the food matter. Considering that most anemones have already lost significant amounts of nematocysts by the time they reach LFS (thats why some just don't feel 'sticky'), I don't suggest so much feeding at first. You'll end up stressing it more. You'll actually be doing it good if you were to starve it and let it rely on photosynthesis to regain back its health before you start feeding. I would go with 1 meal a week. That would be sufficient.

He newly bought this anemone? Does he has any knowledge on this invertebrates? If yes to all both questions, I will feel bad and sorry for the anemone. That goes another anemone in danger. :(

Gambit,

like FueL aid, feed once a week lor... :) the anemone should do fine... your act of love for the anemone by feeding it 3 frills a day might be killing it, so maybe let the fella starve for a few days?

i must admit i made the same mistake when i first had the "honour" of having a bigger tank.i bought a huge anemone, and i mean huge(10++ inches and more in diameter when fully opened).i fed it lots and lots several times a day cuz i'm afraid that my lights could not support such a huge anemone.gradually it began to shrink and i fear it would starve so i fed it even more.den in the last few days of its miserable life it lost all its "stickiness" and bloated up like a jelly fish...u all noe what happened next,i shall not elaborate on the melting and the stench of an anemone...just to share my experience....

aiyah.........u all dun scold me lah......... :(

This is not my first anemone lah.......

i have another 1 and i feed it like.....once every 4 days......

and its doing fine but.....but its smaller.......

think i was making the same mistake as moron_clown...thought bigger so need to feed more.......

i think for now i adjust my lights timing.....give it more light for a couple of weeks first......maybe feed once a week lah........

thanks anyway!!! :thanks:

I used to buy this sera tablet and drop it on the anemone. They will digest it and spit out the remains.

Lately, I ran out of the tablet and went back to the LFS, but they told me the tablet is no longer available. Now most people switch to liquid food instead. He sold me this bottle, and I forgot what is the name, but he told me to pour in one cap per week.

Is this good enough for anemone? Or should I still feed solid food?

Thanks,

Patrick

Liquid food is not for anemone.

You can feed them with market prawn, sliced or small fish(silverfish).

Yup...... but i just read some review on the feeding..... the review say that the anemone intake the food from the underside instead of the opening in the center... it say that the center of the anemone on the top view is actually the butt hole..... hehehe please clarify

i feed my anemone 1 cube of frozen brine shrimp every 3-4 days. Didn't melt it, as other fish will finish it before it can get hold of it.

It may be cold to the anemone, but so far so good leh.

Tank 4x2x2.5

 Underside?!.. I highly doubt so.. have you seen their underside? There is no opening.. unless you are telling me they consume food through osmosis.. <_<

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

They consume food thru the central opening and expel waste thru there as well..

Different anemones have different preferences for different sized foods. Carpet anemones can take larger food items. Bubble tipped anemones take smaller planktonic sized prey. Different anemones also have difference preferences for their substrate. Some like to burrow in sand, some like to attach to rock. You gotta identify the anemone you are trying to keep before you can find out their requirements.

Always something more important than fish.
