red algae

Hi,

My tank recently grow the red color algae. I wonder that is coralline algae or useless algae. It's color like coralline algae but grow on the glass. not the liverock.

coraline algae grows on glass too, but hard to remove.

So is it advisable to keep it or remove it?

IMHO, think u got red slime. might hv resulted from overfeeding, high nutrients, phosphate, nitrates, etc. my suggestion will be to do a water change.

red coralline algae is usually circular and solid when it grows on the glass panels but red slime has a flimsy appearence and fly away filaments. Color wise is also very different....as it's very reddish while the coralline is very pinkish in tone......

Red slime, otherwise known as cyno, are soft and slimy if you touch it. Coralline feels hard and solid.
