Documenting the progress of my 6 x 2.5 x 2

Hi guys.

Finally got my new house and managed to build my dream tank. Hope to document the progress of it here and get some advises along the way.

Started with it being built onsite as it couldn't fit into the lift.

After 2 weeks, tank, cabinet, sump and chiller setup completed.

First draft of my rock scape against the 3D background. I am aware of dead water and detritus gathering behind the background. Will be placing a pump and WM to circulate water behind it to the main tank. Hoping that it is a safe place for copepods too.

Estimated that the filling up and cycling to start in 1 week time.

Intending to have the following livestock

From current 3 feet tank

- pair clown

- Fox face

- watanabe angel

- clown goby

- watchman goby

- flame angel

- blue tang

- Shrimps

New fish

- 8 fire goby

- Queen angel

- hopefully AT.

It will be a mixed reef tank.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing your build come to life. Your scape looks good too, the rock walls will provide a safe haven for the microfauna to reproduce & grow. Agree, with a pump pointed in that direction, that should reduce the effect of any dead spots forming.

I have a question on your tank stand - is it solid marble?? Looks damn exquisite! Also thought it is interesting that the front is totally open without any column support at the middle, considering your tank size.. Maybe there's other reinforcement somewhere?

Not marble. Just laminate on wood.

The support and cabinet doors will be put up once the sump is fully setup.

Nice set up, Scaping is really nice with lots of cave and over hang. 

But IMHO the back drop doesn't really blend in with the rock work,

Ya, the background can be a challenge to work with. Intending to have some bridges between the rocks and it so that they look more integrated. Of course, hoping that after a year or so, coraline algae will cover up both

Will be using the skimmer waste for cycling of new tank. Perhaps use the dosing pump to dose 3ml every 4 hours?

Anyone else have used skimmer waste for cycling tank before? Read it somewhere and I thought it is a good idea.

Interesting idea, any idea if it has been widely practiced? To grow the bacteria at an optimum rate, dosing qty & frequency is an interesting thought too.

Also I believe skimmer waste can contain more than the ammonia which is needed to kickstart the nitrogen cycle..

Not sure how popular this practice is but sounds logical. Instead of throwing in a market prawn or living damsel in, more economical to just reuse the fresh poop. Haha.

I will be dosing bacteria to speed up the cycling too.

Bro you should use the skimmer waste water to start ur tank . It will cut your cycling to half become 2 weeks

Skimmer: Skimz SV253

Light: AI HYDRA 52 HD X 3. Lumen aqua led for refugium

Bio media: Marine pure block x 3

Wavemaker: Gyre 150 and a Sparkle dragon.

Maybe buy a jebao cross wave to try. Haha.
