My Reef Tank

My third topic in Sgreefclub. Been through countless of mistakes and finally have the courage to customise my own tank. I believed everyone in this forum did a lot of mistakes along their reefing life so I'm here hoping to seek for more advices. We learn from each other, presenting "My Reef Tank". Let's start with:

Tank and General Equipments:

  • 36"x30"x18" Coast to Coast Bean Animal
  • Skimz RR113 Recirculating Biopellet Reactor
  • Skimz SM 202 External Skimmer
  • Jebao DC12k pump
  • Medias (Marine pure balls, biohome)
  • HS90A Chiller
  • Gyre 130 Wavemaker
  • ATI 6-tubes

Reviews on my tank maker (AA "Vincent"):

Quality:

Cabinet is 9/10 because there are some chips around the corners.

Tank is 9/10 because extra silicon was around the tank but he managed to clean it off but not completely. Silicon around the tank was nicely done, even those areas behind the tank. When the sump was delivered, he realized there’s a problem but he managed to handle the situation and quickly help me to solve it by removing a piece of glass for my skimmer. “Bonus Point”

His time frame will normally be 20days. Willing to go extra miles to give you a complete tank. I'm really impressed by his solo workmanship deserve to compliment. Totally recommend Vincent as your tank maker.

Sump looks neat. But u may have to consider an auto top up system as e return pump compartment level is quite low. U have a small allowance for exporation before e water level falls below e minimum mark

Hi bro, I'll be using 2 packets of caribsea special grade live sand.

Sump looks neat. But u may have to consider an auto top up system as e return pump compartment level is quite low. U have a small allowance for exporation before e water level falls below e minimum mark

Hi bro, I'll have one ato tank beside my chiller but don't know where can i get a small tall tank.

Ur skimmer is external but u using it inside sump??

Hi bro, I put it in because my sump still got space and if i run externally I'll have trouble finding pipes for my output back to tank.

image.thumb.jpeg.31e25cb4548d029218089a2I was SA recommended me to get this ltaly salt. I decided to give it a go.

The results:

Mg - 1290 (It's low going to bring it up)

Cal - 450 (It's the acceptable range)

Kh - 8.6 (It's abit high but I'm okay with this range)

Update abit!

Recently my kh managed to stay stable at 8-9 with my Calcium Reactor without any ph controller. Po4 is still fluctuating between 4-20 (hanna checker) trying to keep it around 15. Have been controlling my feeding to meet my requirements for my po4 and no3. Have not water change my tank for about 2 1/2 weeks. Hoping to prolong that to 3-4weeks by using DD h20 salt. It's a new salt that I'm using. Heard alot of reviews for this salt but have yet to try. Will give it a goal and hope my sps will love it!

  • SRC Supporter

Darren contacted me to help measure his PAR levels.

P6012185_par.jpg

  • Generally moderate PAR. Numbers are not excessively high as it was a 6 tube ATI fixture.
  • More importantly, the corals were doing well & coloring up.
  • Some areas on the right was quite low for SPS. Suggested to monitor & reposition if needed.
  • The pink birdsnest on the left was right in front of the Gyre. Some algae was growing on the branches/tips facing the gyre. A sign that the flow was too direct. Suggested to move the pink birdsnest away a little.
  • He plans were to supplement the T5 with 2 strips of LED. This should bring up the PAR & add some pop that LEDs provide.

Look forward to more updates, Daren.
