Well, considering how "on the ball" AVA is with CITES stocks, dont think anybody will be foolish enuff to come in so much of controlled items. if one or two pcs... maybe can "hide hide" lah. but in such huge quantities??!!

Application of CITES is expensive and bulky.

Bulky:Since the cost PER PERMIT is high, it will not make sense for any LFS to import small amounts of lifestock as it will render the selling price per pcs too high.

And, the CITES come in fix quantities of A species too. and if what they told me was true, minimum quantity for clams is 500pcs per CITES. Of course you can import less, but wont make much economical sense since you have already paid for the quota.

My two cents. :P

CITES applications are not that expensive to apply for. It's only a few dollars. It's the cost of freight, etc that marks up the cost. And your application can be nulled if the authorities find it inappropriate even though its by rights, legal.

I don't think there is a minimum amount per permit. More likely it's the maximum amount instead. If the minimum amount was 500pcs our oceans would be devoid of clams by now. Furthermore, WC specimens would have a lower maximum quota than CB specimens. 500 pcs still seem rather unbelievable to me. 100-200pcs sounds more believable.

Always something more important than fish.

Ahh... dats why not many LFS have the ability to come in big shipments, and frequently. if the minimum quantity is too little, any LFS would be able to apply CITES, and the exporters on their side will have lots of paperwork to do all the time and the CITES regulating party on the export side will have a hell of a time inspecting every export shipment?? And our dearest AVA *puke* will also have a hard time tracking each and every origin of each individual pce/shipment?

Anyway, badly offtopic.. ;P

Everyone is entitled to thier own views until someone with more concrete knowledge can share their wisdom.

Anyway, heard Pac#### Ma#### also coming in Clams!! Hope theirs will be better and cheaper too!!

Wonder how many clams they will import??
