SRC Member hoppinghippos Posted September 5, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 5, 2003 ok thanx!! maybe will try it one of these days! but then its always so tempting to simply buy a packet of live BS instead!
SRC Member onghm Posted September 5, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 5, 2003 but then its always so tempting to simply buy a packet of live BS instead! bbs are most nutritious within the first hour or so when they just hatched. Appearance will be orangy red in color. After that, their nutrition value will drop and the color will change towards brownish red. By the time bbs reach the lfs, i think most probably already brownish red. So its still worth the effort to hatch your own. My 2 cents

SRC Member flubberina13 Posted September 7, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 7, 2003 Hmm...any good brands of eggs that we can buy locally? I got mine from P*tm*rt. It is the white container with red wordings. So far it's better than the yellow cardboard packaging type and the red container by Zoo types. Percentage of hatch rate is better. reefplicate
I think you meant decapsulated brine shrimp eggs....? You can decapsulate BS cysts by pouring some kind of acid on them for a couple of minutes till the outer shell is dissolved. The eggs can then be fed direct to the tank without worry that the hard shells will cause indigestion to fishes. u can use ordinary washing bleach. ABT 1-2 / 10 dilution, stur really well then transfer into hatching container. this will give u better hatching rate N reduce cyst.
