Weird creature

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow reefers,

I found this fellow in my tank. It moves very slowly. Tank is 2years old and nothing added to it since 6 months ago (except top up water and supplement). Never seen it before throughout the 2 years. Tank was setup with totally dead rocks and replica rocks so unlikely to be hitch hikers from typical liverocks. So I have no idea where it comes from and what it is.

Please help with ID.

I'm no expert but it looks like a type of sea urchin base on the characteristics of the physical body Try this species of sea urchin "Chondrocidaris gigantea"

The shape is a little similar but colour is different.

Agree that is should be a sub species of sea urchin.

Very interesting creature. I've never seen anything like it before. It looks like a pencil iron but the body structure is different. Who knows, might be a new species. There are thousands of urchin species out there

Good idea. I try to throw a pellet in later.

Or maybe try seaweed or a small live rock with coralline algae. If it's really some sort or urchin, it should eat it.

This must be what those marine researchers feel like when they explore for new species lol
