Can conclude that led performance are better than t5

It's too early to make that conclusion since I'm still acclimating the corals to the new light.

Sharing the reason for the conversion

1. Running cost - my 4 tubes of ATI T5 has reached 6 mths. Continuing this routine for next 3 yrs will cost $500++ (enough to invest in the LED light)

2. Ecstatic - my tank is 40cm by 50cm. T5 24watt protruding out - not nice. Top view is covered to maximize PAR by nearing T5 to the water surface.

3. Power consumption - 4 X 24 watt X 10 hrs photo period constant power consumption and heat production resulting in more chilling too.

4. Tech junkie - LED allows more fun with colors and features (eg sunrise, sunset, adjusting light spectrum). Shimmering effect (can "see" the wave makers working)

Sharing my current observation
- lots of shadow
- disco effect
- tank looks dimmer on LED (vs T5)

Maybe 心里作用 corals seem to glow (Fluorescence) under LED.

It is known thing to have shadow effect as the spread is limited for led compared to t5 and so you need to have more led unit to cover more area.

Yes LEd is fun but too much adjusting will kill the sps. I lost a lot of sps because of this but turned back to t5 and I never touch anything lol

I'm impressed by the amount of patience and restraint you have in starting this new marine hobby. Asking a lot of questions and trying to understand stuff before committing to anything. Keep it up. Knowledge is power.

Thanks for your reply.

Jumping in without understanding will not only spending on unnecessary items.
End of the way we are still dealing with livestock right?

Thank you for the advise. I am doubtful, I am (financially) capable of sustaining the running of T5. Just have to read up more and fingers cross... ha ha... Maybe I will run 2 tubes of Blue Plus to supplement the LED. :P I shall explore...

Good to see responsible reefers joining the scene.. Yes it's living things we are dealing with & we should give them the best possible artificial enviroment to ensure their survival.

Starting with soft corals, some LPS, as one learns water chemistry, tank husbandry, before moving to the more demanding & sensitive SPS is recommended. Best of luck on your journey! Happy reefing!

May I know what is blue plus?

Question: since I'm not heading to SPS as it so
Much more demanding Need dosing of CA,MG,KH need to monitor nitrate, phosphate, did I miss out on anything??

I'm wondering which is the most recommended lighting should I go for at least in future don't have to upgrade the lighting if I wanted to try SPS

I don't know what the SPS people like using, but I'm assuming t5 is always a safe bet. For me personally, kessils look awesome on my softies.

Unless you enjoy doing lots of work, consider using Calcium reactor instead of dosing.

Old school: Metal Halide + T5HO

New school: LED + T5HO

IMO, T5HO seems the constant.
