Heat given off from UV steriliser

I was wondering will UV steriliser cause the water to heat up? I noticed ever since I on my UV steriliser, my chiller will not be able to pull the temperature down to 26 degree Celsius. So will UV sterilisers give off a lot of heat? or how or when should I use the UV steriliser to prevent the temp from rising? I'm currently using the 24watt UV steriliser.

Are you having a temperature probe? If so, don't put the probe and the UV in the same compartment. It does give off heat as with any light source. However, it shd not spread throughout the entire tank unless your tank is small. In which case your UV would be overpowered.

So I believe the uv sterilizer should be mounted before the chiller ?

HAHAHA that's what I did but I didn't want to spend on another pump so what I did was to put a timer on the UV steriliser So the UV steriliser won't heat up the water too much

24W UV should not have any major impact on the temp in the tank.

The consideration for serial hook up  of the UV and chiller is the flow rates, chiller needs lower flow rate (~1000-1500l/h) compared to UV, especially if you keep a reef (flow should be 2-3 times higher).
