Hi,

If my KH is high or low, how am I going to do?

Water change is the fastest way to maintain at natural sea lvl kh8-9. If too low people dose ! But make sure to slowly increase it .

If you need to increase it, use Randy's reef calculator to see how much you need to dose. Is your Ca level ok? That needs to be adjusted in tandem with your KH.

If you need to decrease it, like Willy said, can do WC. Otherwise, can also have your livestock slowly decrease it as they consume it.

Normal KH is abt 7.

Increasing CA can increase KH.
But remember to test Magnesium also. Both Calsium and magnesium need to be increased in tandem to maintain KH.

Many people forgot to watch out for Mg.

CA is calcium, & yes, there are test kits to test for calcium levels in a tank.

For optimum results, Test and Dose daily. 

Set ur target for ALK/CAL/MG

Day 1 test, write down on a note, dose accordingly (follow instruction, do no overdose)

Day 2 same thing

day 3 same thing

you can go on to 7 days if u want more consistent value and then average it.

You will find out how much alk/cal/mg being consume per day and how much u have to dose per day.

after that u can test once a week or twice a week just to make sure the parameters are stable.

Everytime u add a coral in, test for 3 straight days. Some reefers will test daily if they have time. as for me once a week.

U need Salifert KH, Calcium and Magnesium Test Kits. Cheap and accurate enough.

as for dosing, there are many brands out there, Brightwell, TLF, Seachem etc etc. I personally use TLF C balance A&B & Brightwell Magnesion.

Alkalinity, ph, Ca are the 3 basic parameters you need to monitor. Unfortunately there isn't any single equipment able to tell you all the values at once.
