Give it a time, and your skimmer will work properly. If this not work then i think your power head is to small. I'm forget about your type but my type is ASF 200, it is for approx 1000 lt and suggested to use a 1500 lt power head, but with 1500 lt it produce only small amount bubble so i changed to 3500 lt and it produce lots of small tiny bubble and work very good fo me. And you must regulate the red knob until the bubble in the chamber reach 2 cm below the neck. If you let the bubble reach above the neck then you will not get a maximum waste skimmer.

  wow...so i think i better go invest ina secondary pump today..get another pump and blast the skimmer! haha..

Maybe you can let us know the setup of your tank.

If you have 'nothing' inside and no feeding...then probably little or no 'skimmate'!

Your water level also play a part...you can start by maintaining the water level at abt 1/5 of the collection cup chamber, and see any foam form up after a few hours.

btw, which model is your? couldn't locate the model you stated in this site.

Not necessarily, a well rated skimmer can pull out gunk even from aged new saltwater mix.

I can't comment as I'm not a MACRO skimmer user, but I would recommend you give the guys a full appreciation of your setup and skimmer setup configuration / setting.

Common mistakes are water level and tuning, which some of the members have pointed out.

well...my model is the smaller version.. asf 400 bought from a mama pet shop.. they do sell asf 200 but i didnt buy it cos i want an overrated skimmer.so i got one level higher! hmm..true! water level plays a part.. now keeping my water level 2 cm below the neck of the skimmer. but there is a question i dont understand?

" what is 1/5 of the collection cup? " dont quite get it ya?

by the way, you all may be right..cause my tank only has a damsel left after my tank went through 3 BIG major and disastrous crashes! twice from cyano third from installation of my overflow box.. so basically i am returned to zero.. :erm:
