Alkalinity test using Hanna

Need advice from Hanna users out there.

currently having trouble of alkalinity keep on dropping so I keep on adding baking soda to compensate the lost.

last night I test my water not twice but three times using the currently reagent and open up a new reagent bottle.

old reagent reading at 140ppm with bottle is almost going to finish, from new reagent bottle reading at 300ppm. I retest using new reagent and the same reading at 300ppm. I think I have to buy other brand to confirm which one is the correct reading.

I bought the same reagent from hanna Singapore, same batch.

did anybody experience this before?

how long should reagent last after opening?

If My tank if current alkalinity at 300. I need water change big time. or should I leave it for a while to deplete by it self.

thanks to all.

Ive always been using salifert for dkh testing, works well and easy to use too.

Most cases, irregardless of what you keep, 300ppm = 16-17dkh, too high for any type of tank/reef imo.. any casualty so far?

WC will help but try to get a salt with lower dkh

Just have to keep reefing... cant stop now~!
