You want xenia to pump? Very easy to do it, dose some pH buffer. Buffer it to up to 8.3, they will pump like crazy again :P

By the way, xenia can be use as a pH indicator too...

Yea...the pumping action is due to pH levels. Higher pH will lead to them pumping more. You might want to dose a little iodine to see if it helps (caution when dosing iodine).

Always something more important than fish.

Fuel is right. Xenias do need a higher pH to thrive. Studies have shown that when pH is low their pumping actions are erratic and the points of their tantacles are almost always twisted and never meet. However, with a pH of 8.3 to 8.4 their pulsing actions are synchronized and all the points will meet perfectly when they closed.

Other things to watch when keeping xenias are strong intermittent current to assist with the cleaing mucus, lower temperature of between 23 to 25 degrees celcius and like what Fuel recommended, dosing of iodide supplements to enhance growth.

It has also been observed that large xenia colonies need to be fragged with a sharp pair of scissors to prevent them from crashing. Pruning them regularly increase their chance of survival.

I keep both white and brown Xenia. The brown one was healthy for a few months but it has crashed within few days! :( I still can't figure out the reason since my white Xenia is still growing and pumping happily until now (6 months already)! :D

I dosed Seachem Iodine but I notice that the dosage of Iodine seems affect my Coco worm and my bubble. So now I rely on Bi-weekly water change to replenish the Iodine.
