Harlequin Shrimp

i do have a harlequin shrimp , and it is a very nice shrimp. but for me, it hides most of the time unless i dont feed it a starfish.

isn't it very expensive to see the shrimp then? Have to feed one starfish per view. lol

Primary food for harlequin shrimp is starfish. Some mentioned that it may feed on sea urchins. Tried one before and ate my only starfish in my tank. The shrimp died later due to starvation.

i find them very pretty too, but the maintenance is super ex. The other way recommended to sustain them is to buy a few chocolate chip starfish, then slowly chop off 1 leg, feed the harlequin, then the following week chop off another starfish leg to feed. Every leg can sustain the harlequin for about 1 week and the starfish will grow back the leg in about a month i think. But it seems a bit cruel to me, so i decided not to try. Worse part, they only eat the tube feet part of the leg, so you have to manually pick up the remaining leg and throw away before it rots away and messes up the water.

Kept a pair before. They feed exclusively on starfish.

I buy sand sifter starfish for my pair. 1 starfish lasts around 3 weeks, and the finish the whole star until nothing's left.

Hi i have a female  harlequin shrimp,ive had her about 1yr now.

Im quite lucky in some respect,because i work in am aquatics shop i get to bring home asterina stars and dead star fish ( legs ) from work I chop these up and put them in my freezer.
