A Lazy Man's Tank

I always believe reefing is for enjoyment and should not make me a slave to this hobby.

Thus, I have these three criteria for my reefing.

1. Simple

2. Low maintenance

3. Cost efficient

With the above criteria, I'm very much limited to less demanding corals like LPS and softies.

I'm very intrigue by Santa Monica's Algae Scrubber System.

No skimmer, no water change and no dosing or additives requires.

It is too good to be true........ but I shall test it out.

I will chronicle my journey here.

Let's begin.............................

My Tank Set Up

4 X 1.5 X 1.5 feet

Sump with refugium

Using algae scrubber system

No Skimmer

Jeboa 8 wave-maker

Maxspect 160W LED lightings

System has been running for 3 years.

However just switch to Algae Scrubber System 3 mths back.

Wow.. no water change....really!?!?!

You switched to algae scrubber 3 months back. Prior to this, have skimmer or also just refugium?

Do you keep any fishes? Would like to see your FTS if possible. Will be good case study.

That's what Santa Monica's claim, I'm still not too sure about the water change.

Before I do have a low end Deltec Skimmer.

I have, yellow tang, purple tang, pink wrasse and royal gamma. All around 3-4 inches

What's FTS?

How does no dosing works? Ca mg and Kh will not go down?

I'm not too sure too, I'm testing it out........slowly.

This is what I learnt from Santa Monica, do visit his site.

Currently I do not have skimmer and doing very little water change.

Fortunately the corals are still ok, touch wood,
