Then bro how you keep the ocean free cyclops? Need to in the fridge?

I kept a portion in the fridge (enough to last a week). Balance I put in the freezer.

I feed only about 1/4 teaspoon each time. So it can last quite long. Its around $3.30-$3.50 depending on which LFS you go to.

Started to dose Revoreef Nutricore 'aggressively' in the frag tank. Finally the Sunkist Zoa are starting to sprout new polyps after such a long time :)

Should I off the skimmer if I pour the food haha

My skimmer is always on after feed events. Its off only after dosing bacteria & other additives (off for 2hrs)

Measured my water parameters over the weekend & found it was quite out of whack. Regular testing is a must :

NO3 - 1ppm (OK)

Phosphate - undetectable (OK)

Ca - 380ppm (to increase to 420+)

Kh - 9dKH (To drop back to 7+)

Mg - 1170ppm (To increase to 1400 with Mg flakes)

Strontium - 10 (OK)

Potassium - 350ppm (Way under. To increase to 400)

Added a Scarface Blenny from The Fish Channel recently. Started to feed on pellets & also takes chunks of cyano off the rocks.

I'm trying to bring it back closer to NSW levels (7-8 dKH).

No hard evidence but i had a massive coral blistering event several months back where I lost a lot of colonies. That was when the conditions were (9+ dKH) + increased bacteria dosing. Just trying to avoid those similar conditions.

I see.. This blistering issue is still quite a mystery, happened to me once but i took the extreme measure by fragging off the affected parts and left it to re-grow again. So far so good.

I have my kh around 9 to 9.6 and I dose bacteria twice a week due to my new set-up. If high kh and increased bacteria dosing are the 2 factors that you suspect then I would say its due to your increased bacteria dosing because I have seen many reefers who maintained kh around 10 to 11 but they do not dose bacteria regularly as their tank is very established already.

I hope my sharing helps! :)

I also having the same issue when the dkh goes up to 8. Has lowered back to 7.7 and seems to be doing better for the sps colonies.

Tried researching the bubbling and blistering issues on SPS on WWW - Nothing concrete found because everyone is pointing to different directions. So can only pray and wait and trial and error... In one way or another I felt its more to do with carbon dosing ie. bacteria than anything else.

Happy Reefing,

Marc J.

Thanks for the inputs. Yeah...I used to run kh around 10+ or separately increased carbon dosing (to reduce nitrates) without issue.

In any case, I agree that the suspect is increased bacteria/carbon dosing....though no hard data to prove it.

Even though my tank is small & it goes through less water than most others, I'm changing the 3 carbon/sediment filters of the RODI unit once a year. Its about $24+ for the set of 3 at Madpetz, which is not that bad.

This is after around 2500-3000L of clean water out of the unit.
