Hey thc,

Whats worng with the standard adhesives available???

I've tried the standard ones, they don't hold that well. Tends to leak after some time.

Did some study and found out that Weld On 4 and 16 are both good for sticking acrylic. But to stick pvc to acrylic i'll need Weld On 40 to have a good join.

Anyone pleaseeeee :cry2::cry2:

I was at a shop near kelantan lane that specialise with PVC materials....

Spoke to them regards a adhesive thats able to stick PVCs to acrylics.... well, they did mentioned that theres a kind of glue thats able to do that but would be expensive as it has to be shipped in from the states.....

the other alternative to this is to use clear schedule 40 PVCs.....

or build your project entirely out of acrylics....

Thanx for advise bro,

I'm DIYing a Deltec based skimmer with with clear pvc, it don't look good.

And for acrylic. i have also did one Aqua C based skimmer with acrylic. it holds with standard glue but not for long. Unless, i double seal it with silicon, it will leak in no time...

Anyway, there is company selling a almost similar product, but have to check with them to confirm whether their product can withstand sea water application..

Thank You again

Hi thc. the local glue works fine. What I found out is that it is not the glue. It's the method of using it. As you might know I've done alot of acrylic projects and have been learning through out. Alot of things play a part when joining acrylic together. Room temperature, waiting time before joining, types of cutting used, peperations before joining, different jigs for different joins, different preasure needed to hold the joints etc...

The normal way of joining acrylic in the shops here in singapore are mainly for display and not for water. Therefore their methods of joining cannot be used for our "water" projects.

By the way your DIY work looks great! Wish I had more time to make skimmers :)

Ian,

Thank you for sharing. :thanks: I let the glue soak for for a while before gluing the parts together and applying pressure (using F clamps), but still there problems. Especially so at the joint of the pvc and acrylic. Could be the glue i'm using??!!!!

Can share what glue you using :P:yeah:

Anyway thanks again.

thc sorry i did'nt read carfully, PVC and Acrylic cannot be joint using the normal glue you get from the acrylic shops. 1 suggestion is to add acrylic shavings to the "glue" to make it thick. leave overnight and use the nest day. This should help. :)
