RAV-65
Hi all, juz got my new 3 feet tank and it came with liveorcks dat has already been cured. The rocks came however in a styrofoam box, so it was left without saltwater for a few hours... My question is: After testing the water dat has been running for 2 days, i discovered that the no2 level is almost zero... do I still need to throw in a market prawn to induce ammonia? SRC Member jc85 Posted March 14, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 14, 2004 You should still cycle as you might still have some dieoff due to transportation and handling. Maybe ur cycle period will be shorter. If I'm you, I'll cycle for a wk then test the water parameter to confirm. Achilles Tang
It is always better to cycle longer, even if you are confident that the cured LR is 'fresh'. Give it time for the bacteria count to increase first as there will still be minute dieoffs somehow. But if its cured LR, you have a much shorter cycle. The key to safety is SLOW stocking.... again to allow the bacteria enough time to cope.
