4 X 2 X 2.5ft Tank Cabinet

Hi,

I was quoted by someone at $3800 including the followings :

1. 4 X 2 X 2.5ft 12mm glass, cabinet tank with hood

2. Sump including bioballs, rings, piping n filter media

3. Marco skimmer (dun know the model)

4. Eheim Pump for skimmer ( dun know the model )

5. Auto top up, built in cabinet with pump

6. Return pump - 8000litres (according to him is a german brand)

7. MH with built in fan - looks like DIY ( 2 X 150w with 2 X FL Blue)

8. Chiller 1/3hp, built in cabinet (DIY confirm)

9. 2 X fan in cabinet to disperse hot air out of the cabinet

It looks cool since all item is built in, but dunno whether it is practical.

Can some experts advise whether its worth to purchase this set up ?

If you ask me, I think $3800 is reasonable if its a good reputable chiller of at least 1hp for your 4x2x2.5ft = 540L tank, good protein skimmer - Aqua C -EV series,H&S or equivalent, good return pump german brand, sump must have refugium, MH light 250W or 400W x 3 + Actinic PL x 3...........else if its just a normal stuff, you can set up at less than $2500 with cabinets also..........one more thing, ask abt the water circulation also, close system,powerhead,tunze stream?

Need 8000l/hr return pump?that strong? I'm using something thats half of that rating only. I'm having a 4x2x2 tank with sump and cabinet.

Eric: The chiller is only 1/3hp.

Do you need the MHs or you can do away with less powerful lights like PLs,t5s or FLs?

Not sure if $3800 worth or not but i personally feel it might be slightly expensive.

What's the size of the sump? 1/3 HP may not be enough.

IMO 8000 ltrs return pump is overkill. I find my eheim 1262 is very powerful which is rated at around 3400 ltrs.

err, u mean $2500 i could get tank, cabinet, sump, pump, chiller n Mh ? tats very cheap... any lobang ? Cos i know the tank/cabinet/sump cost about 1200-1400

you might wan to be more specific in giving the spec of the setup eg, macro skimmer, what model is that, eheim pump, what model? 4 footer tank with wat type of glass and how thick is that? chiller, which brand?

as Eric mentioned, diferrent brand and model will cost a lot of diferrent..... u cannot compare the price of a resun chiller with and heilea brand....

a 4 feet setup could cost your more than 3K ~ 10K + without LS....

even cabinet have different type of quality and price, those ready made cabinet in LFS constructed using chipboard is extremly cheap compare with those using solid chengai wood........

I think then I would consider it to be quite expensive.

I guess this hobby is a bottomless pit where $$$ and time are concerned. However you do get the satisfaction at the end of it. So cant grumble.

8000lph is way overkill. If return is too strong, may cause other problems, like salt spray. Most will settle for around 400lph and use some form of powerhead,

May be a little expensive at $3800 for these items, but depends on quality of work.

See for yourself before committing. Better still, get some reefers to go with you.

Do you mean 4000L/Hr ?

IMO....

Recommendation is the water in the main tank should have a turnover rate of 10 times/Hr, but of cos can go lower or higher. But make sure your drain pipe/pipes can support the amount of water return back to the tank if you go higher.

Next, 8000L/Hr after some horizontal, vertical and elbow travelling in the pipe will have head loss. If still too strong, split to 2 output or maybe 3 (save 1 PH in the tank=less heat) also can.

Thks Bro, but the guy did told me its 8000Lph...... i'm quite new in this hobby so i cant verify his statement.......... i believe some reefers might have pounch on him b4 at SUNGEI TENGAH.... , maybe they would like to comment something....
