hi all, i noticed that some LFS have quarantine tanks for newly arrived fishes while other LFS has contaminating tank (to worsen the fishes' health). my question is should we buy fishes straight from the box (newly arrived ones) or should we purchase those that are already in the LFS' tanks?

coz i notice that there are a few LFS (don't wish to give names) has water quality that is only suitable for LUOHANS...fishes dying and dead, some even rotting.so wat i did was grab whatever i need when the shipment arrives.

comments anyone??thanks..

As long as the fish looks healthy in the bag it should be no problem. However, you will have to spend more time to acclimatize it to your tank water parameters before introducing the fish. Depends on whether you are willing to take the risk?

Always something more important than fish.

as for fishes bought in LFS.. always buy them after a few days aftert eh shop has quaratine them.. also a good idea to ensure that the fishes are eating already before you purchase...

I think more and more reefers are developing the kiasu mentality and are grabbing LS the moment a shipment arrives. Some are even queueing to wait for shipment to arrive.

I wouldnt wanna take the risk on this as marine fish tend to have more casualities as compared to fresh water fish.

I would be wise to let the LFS take the ownership of acclimitasing them first and ensure that they are all feeding before selling them.

I also noted that LS is usually shipped on Thurs or Fri to cater for weekend crowd.

At the end of the day, buy wisely!

From my experience, it is better to observe the fish in the LFS for a week before buy it. You don't know the source where the fish is from and how they catch them. Some irresponsible wholesale catch the fish by using Cyanide. Those fish that is exposed to this chemical will eventually die after about 1 week.

Also, from statistical results, 90% of the death is during the 1st week of the transportation. Again, it is how much risk you want to take. Not only the money for the fish but the time to QT, or worst till, without QT, it may crash your whole display tank

My LFS allowed me to hold the fish for 1-2week and give me time to observe them. Depend on your relationship with these LFS, they should do this favor for you to keep long term business partners.
