Reduce phosphate...

what are your recommendations to reduce phosphate levels? so as to curb algae problem...thanks

Feed less. Remove Uneaten food. Regular water change. Lower bioload. Upgrade skimmer. Grow macroalgae. Phosphate-absorbing products like Rowaphos.

is rowaphos realli effective??? need to change it after sometime rite? can advise? will putting more macroalgae help too? how bout taking the LR out n scrub off the brown algae?

well said FuEL...... totally agree with u.

by setting up a refugium and growing macroalgae helps to a certain extent as the caulerpa absorbs the excess nutrients, e.g. nitrate for it to grow. the thing to look out for is ur macroalgae turning asexual and u hv to prune ur macroalgae regularly.

Hi,

The algae will turn asexual when they die off rite? So, if i removed it fast enough after it dies off, will it prevent the nitrates and PO4 spike?

And, does pruning it means simply plucking the algae stalks off, or are there some methods to do it?

the thing to look out for is ur macroalgae turning asexual and u hv to prune ur macroalgae regularly.

Rowaphos is great to reduce PO4...been using it though. You can also cut down on ur lighting!
