Copper sulfate is an inorganic compound that combines sulfur with copper. It can kill bacteria, algae, roots, plants, snails. It is sometimes used as an algaecide. The toxicity of copper sulfate depends on the copper content.

Not sure if the copper used for fish is copper sulfate but if it is then it will kill algae also.

Good point. Not only will a scrubber not grow if made out of copper, whatever it is connected to (presumably a FO system) probably won't have algae either because of the copper getting into the water.

copper is too strong for most. and to my understanding, it wont help but add stress to your tank.

Copper will kill algae. Talking about this, maybe it is possible to use diluted copper to treat rocks heavily inflected with algae?
