Hi all,

I have ordered a new 6ft by 2.5ft by 2.5ft tank. It will be coming in end March or Early April. After taking into accounts feedback from tank maker and experts from this forum. Will be going along with this design for the main tank. Any comments or advice regarding the setup will be most welcome. :thanks:

Hi,

u might want to consider getting a bigger Hp for your chiller. 1/2 Hp would definitely not support a tank of that size

2ft cube with 2.5 sump

400w MH with 6 x 24w blue T5

Hydor wavemaker controller

Aquatronica controller

Daikin compressor with double coil

RM CR

H&S out sump skimmer

hi hotsoup,

thanks for ur tip..

what brand and hp chiller will u recommend then?

did a calculation at arctica website.. it's stated that their 1/2hp chiller will be sufficient to cool the tank without fans blowing on the MH.. With fans acting as exhaust, their 1/3hp chiller should be enough.

Go for the highest HP u can get locally such as 1.5 hp to minimise the chiller run time and to reduce electrocity bill. it's more econmony in the long term

think it would be better to invest on tunze than run two pumps for close loop and a scwd; less heat, less elctrical consumption and more water movement

hi reefer guy,

was thinking of going for tunze b4 coming up with this concept cos of the advantages u mention..

However, was told that it will be ugly having the tunze in the tank even if i manage to hide it...

this was my alternate plan b4 coming up with the latest

No problem I'm finding my 1/2 hp for 3 ft tank is insufficient, should have got the 1 hp from day one.sigh...

what brand of chiller are u using? was told that different brands will have different performance even if it's the same hp

Better to have you tunze at oppsite end facing each other instead of next to each other for better water circulation effect.

that's another reason why i opt for close loop.. the tank will be acting as a divider and viewed from three sides.. having a tunze at the opposite end will make concealment of the wiring difficult..

can u propose a way in which i can hide the wire??

:thanks:

Sometimes it can't be help, the only way i can thik of is to covered it with rocks.

What's the point of having a beautiful tank with all gadgets well hidden but the inhabitants are not happy?

If you refer to the thread by Tangy, his calculation will prove otherwise.

also, different brand has different efficiency in the cooling capacity.
