Agree, no3 160ppm is high. Bring it down first before stocking again.

Sometimes the fish is already weakened when you buy them, so not really you doing something wrong. Try a different shop.

Drip acclimate the fishes over 1-2 hrs to increase the fish chances.

8mth old tank should be quite stable. This 3 day death thingy apply to only new fishes?

Yes. some my old fish they still vy strong

There can be many reasons why new fishes die while old fishes stay alive.

Some could be :

i) New fishes not acclimatised properly.

ii) Bioload too high with new fishes added, old fishes managed to survive as they are already hardy to the tank conditions but new fishes too stressed by it.

iii) There is a bully in the tank stressing the fishes.

iv) There is a predator in the tank.

Just my 2cents worth, to think about.

Btw, what is your tank size and inhabitants?
