Salifert and Sera Nitrate test kit

Hi,

I have used Salifert and Sera Nitrate test kit today, Salifert showed about 20mg/L, but when i used Sera test kit, it showed a big different result which is 70mg/L.

I knew Sera is not a good test kit, but will it show such a big different result than Salifert?

Which do trust now? :(

Anyone faced the same problem?

I used to have a sera nitrate test kit years ago when I was only 15...Used it on my nano 2 ft tank...it showed nitrates at 50ppm...that time thought it was accurate....after changing 3/4 of my water..nitrates was read at 40-50ppm still. Resulted me in changing water very often, wasting alot of $$ uneccessarily back then.

Now no more using sera ....all my test kits salifert.

Always something more important than fish.

Hi Fuel,

Me the same, no matter how hard i change water, the reading still remain the same..... just curious why the Salifert gave such low reading dramatically than Sera.... In fact, i wish too, just not so convinced.

I have been using Tetra testkit. Its always showing me either 75 or 100 for NO3. Recently got the Salifert testkit and its howing me 25. Thus I assume that tetra testkit result must divde by 4.4 as stated in the box.

Sorry has not used Sera b4 tot.

Just sharing my experience.

Hi, i also use tetra test kits, and as i can remember the kits is already in total nitrate and not nitrate nitrogen, that's why we don't need devide it by 4,4. Or may be it is because the error reading from such a cheap test kits. Any comment???

I am also totally confused by the instructions and units reading on the chart. After using Salifert testkit, imho I'll probably nvr use Tetra NO3 testkit again. Their NH3 and N02 testkit are fine though.

Hi Asfur, based on my experience on these two testkit, it should be the case on dividing tetra results by 4.4 but u'll nvr know it could be my salifert testkit that giving the wrong readings instead? :fear:

Till I can get my hands on another testkit, I'll like to think salifert is giving me the correct readings.
