I was just wondering how fast do the anemones/pompoms of the crab grow?

Dun they need lights like other anemones? If so, how do they get lights when most of the time, the crab is in shaded places.. they only like come out when scavenging for food..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Don't you notice that most anemone hold by the crab are bleached! The crab will just change new anemone when its old one died

most or all? I tot they had some special sorta anemone which is bleached kind. ..

If what you said is true then its really sad.. :( .. how am I gonna see it "dance" away other LSs if the anemones die? :(

Two of my pompom crab used to grap those Aiptasia (pest anemone) in my tank. Recently one of it carrys notings and the other one carry only one bleached aiptasia since all the rest of the aiptasia are eaten by my peppermint shirmp.

But it seem that the pompom crabs don't need the anemone to survive, it just use it as a weapon!

So maybe the pompom crab can use to get rid of Aiptasia since they will grap and torture the pest anemone!:idea:

hmmm.. so its supposed to be good to control aiptasia then... cool.. no need for peppermint shrimps liao.. :P

I know they do not need the anemones to survive but it would be as cute without them.. I like to see it when its in confrontation..

Yesterday I saw my pompom crab face to face with my harlequin shrimp.. The crab swayed its "pompoms" from side to side.. .. funny.. too bad not video cam to capture them.. :P

wont the anemone bleahed and pollute the water? And will it sting other LS if the pom pom crab ...anemone touches other LS?/ ;)

nah.. its too small to pollute anything.. and yes.. it might sting other corals if the crab is near corals but then again, its too small to pack any punch.. or the anemones are already halfway up the lorry ;)..

BTW, I always tot that these Pompom Crabs have a symbiotic relationship?!.. apparently its more of one side dun you think? Not much benefit for the anemones. Not like anemones and clownfishes..

I have never kept a pompom crab b4.

Saw a few article b4 on the net that might be useful to those keeping them.

Lybia tesselata (aka pompom crab or boxer crab) has a mutualism relationship with its attached anemone.

Cheers

thanks for the sites.. but mutual? <_< .. I highly doubt so.. more of one sided.. ;)

Not much light where the crab usually hides.. even if the anemone relys more on food now, when they are bigger (that is if they actually survives), they will need to depend more on lights.
