Hey guys,

Just got back from madpetz, and got myself two boxes of HW Marinemix - reefer. Just tested it out, and I'm really happy with the results. Just sharing with everyone here.

I first saw this salt appear on Bulkreefsupply. Heres a video of it. Never thought of using it as it was not available in sg back than.

  • One of the first synthetic salt mixes ever produced
  • No anti-caking agents
  • No chemical or environmental pollutants, no nitrates, phosphates or silicates
  • Natural, stable pH and optimal alkalinity
  • Contains no EDTA which can chelate many necessary trace elements
  • Optimized with amino acids and organically stabilized iodine - great for the reef hobbyist

Heres the box of salt : Its small and portable, easy to carry, box weights 20kg.

I transfered it over to a container for dry seal:

Salt is very powdery

Mixing in the salt @ 1.0255 sg:

After 10 Mins of mixing

After 15 Mins water is perfectly clear

Water Parameters:

Heres what bulk reef supply claims: "Upon BRS analysis - hw-Marinemix Reefer contained Calcium at 445-450 ppm, Alk of 9.0 dKH, Magnesium at 1380 ppm."

My own test with salifert (upon water clearing, 15mins from first mix) : SG 1.0255. KH 8.6 (purplish pink) 8.9 (full pink). CA 440. Mg: 1410

My own honest review:

German salt is really awesome! The salt parameters are impressive, they are very similar to BRS analysis, the MG is perfect for me which means I won't have to dose magnesium, just regular water change should do the trick.

I keep my tan's KH between 7.3 to 7.5....so I probably have to wait for it to mix awhile longer. Will test again 6hrs time and share the info here.

Salt looks really high grade, and since theres is no anti caking agent, im hoping there wont be leftover brown crude / residue / sediments as i get with other salt mixes in my container any longer.

Excited to see how my corals react to the new salt mix. Will keep everyone updated. If anyone has tried this salt, pls share your own review.

I just changed water. Couldn't wait overnight cos I'm flying off at 5am Tomorrow morning. Tested the kh before that, had a reading of 8.6. That's after 5 hours of mixing....so far can't see any difference with the corals. They seem to be showing same good health as before....will update again when I'm back from my holidays! Happy reefing!

$99 for how many kg?

Bro Tofubox mentioned 20kg in earlier post. So I suppose it's 20kg for $99?

Yup, 20kg

Just did my 60 litres mix just now @ 1030pm.

86grams per 0.001

Example sg is 1.024, and to raise it to 1.026, use 172 grams.

My observations :

-Very fine,

- no clumps,

-no smells like skimz salt. Or red sea.

Mixes incredibly fast!!

Before and after photo with 5min pump on

Parameters @ 34ppt.

Kh 181ppm

Cal 440

Potassium 390

Sharing some info of the salt :

Read that this salt has been use by various uni/researcher due to its purity.

What i like about it is Also it is synthetic, and not evaporative method etc which may contain toxic chemical pollutants which will be bad for our livestock.

Will wc later at 9am

It doesn't have any residue left over like red sea after mixing. A very clean salt imho.

After 12% wc with this salt, found that sps'es release a long string of filaments. A feeding response. Corals do open bigger. Those who bought, lailai share your own review here with this salt

I recommend this salt give it a chance & try it.

Wow, corals coloring up nicely, bro!!

Thanks bro. Have been changing water every week.

Pe has been great so far with this salt. Corals will go into feeding mode after changing too! Some top down shots taken with note 4 to end my last post.

Any harm if we leave it for a few days after mixing?

I've never stored the salt after mixing so I'm not too sure bro. Usually keep a mixing pump inside the container

Oh ok. Thats my mistake to do the mixing and realise no time to do the wc.

I dun think it's a big problem storing ur newly mixed synthetic saltwater unless there's live bacteria in it.

looks like a good choice considering the price tag.

what salt are you guys using before this? any big difference compare to the previous brand?

Hi bro, I was on DD Salt.

Biggest difference is no more brown deposits in my container. Faster mixing time. So far, Im still on my first box of MM, the kh and ca is pretty consistent.

Corals seem to respond well after water changes. As mentioned, in my tank thread, i experience better growth.

That said, since mm is a synthetic salt. If u do not provide a proper air tight seal. It is prone to clumping. So always make sure its kept in a dry container, with no chance of moisture entering.
