tank crash by them

Thinking of getting a sea hare and upon researching, turns out they can get pretty deadly when frightened or dead, crashing the tank. Want to hear some real life stories if any reefer's tank been crashed by sea hare, sea cucumbers or anemones when these creatures died. Or these scary stories about them on the net are just myths or rare occurrences.

I had a california black sea hare previously. Effective at clearing algae and died about a month after algaes were cleared. Was told it isn't poisonous.

When it died, the body melted and some purple substance released. However inverts and fishes were happily nipping away its carcass. No crash whatsoever. Bought from ML.

In my dad's tank, he once bought 1 carpet anemone and I think 1 bubble anemone (added later). Both fought to their death and the tank crashed.

wow anemone wars! I heard their chemicals affect the corals growth but never tank crash. That war must be epic!

my sea hare is nowhere to be found. i think it has melted away but i cant find its melted body anywhere... hahahaha and i only have mandarins and a firefish... i doubt they ate the dead sea hare.

Depending on your tank size and volume of water, yes it could be possible if the filtration is not enable to handle the toxic /load when it die.

Yup the war was in a 1ft cube x 2ft height. So u can imagine the space is quite limited. Since then no one in the family dares to get another anemone haha

White-spotted boxfish..I have one in my previous 3ft tank...when it's dead, all fishes up lorry except corals.. !

So far sea hare seems alright. I might go with it if there are no more scary tank crash by them.

A 3-footer tank is respectable size but still crashed by a boxfish death. Maybe a larger tank just delays or dilutes the poison but cannot prevent the crash.

@RayL: u can consider just get one anemone? lol

Tried all before , die because high nitrate . The funny thing the dead body stuck at wave maker . Ew . Anyway cause more spike and coral eventually

Tats rough, hope u recover from it. I got the sea hare 2-3 weeks back. Seems alrite so far. Comes out when the lights are dimmed. I feed it nori tight to a rock at nite every week. Its really like a sea cow munching on rocks.
