Nitrate spikes when feeding frozen food

I was wondering why my shrimp died of shock today ... So I went to experiment with the food I was feeding ...

Realised that whenever I feed frozen brine-shrimp , the nitrate level will shoot up by 75ppm.

Anyone have any tips on reducing this spike?

p.s Heard of thawing it in fresh water first then net the food out to feed (like "washing" it)
