Black patches on clown fish

Recommended Posts

Have a common clownfish and a pair of true perculas. It started with the common clown, where the orange part starts to get black spots/patches, that does not go away.

A few weeks later, the male of my true perc pair started to have the black patches.

Another one knows what happens, are the fishes still ok? Will the black patches go away?

Thanks for any advice.

Seems like this is the direct opposite of my situation. I have a pair of true perc which the male is losing its black colour on its fins (More or less recovered now).

The female true perc has its black colour fading away turning into orange.

Initially thought it was the common clown disease but it wasnt cause it has been feeding on every meals and chasing for food like a glutton.

Sorry to steal your thread here but it seems like we have the direct opposite situation.

Why not we trade :lol: I want the black and you want the orange.

Seems like little help people can offer here. I have posted similar question (just different colour changes) also asked around a few reputable LFS but none could offer any direct solution. The only advice that was given was to try and give the fish a variety of food.

Seems like we're on the same boat here. I think the most important thing is that the fishes are feeding well.

Sorry cant be of much help here.

I think my clown is also having the same problem...

Maybe it is a sign of age... :eyebrow:

From what I know, it is the sting from corals. Check if your clown fish rubs against other corals than anemone. Just leave it, no problems will not spread, since it is like burnt marks...but won't harm the fish.

Just my opinion. Some one please correct if i am wrong.

Thanks!

HI i have read in the net that this blacks spots often appear on clown fishes as they may have rubbed against other corals that might be very stinging ( elegance, hammers), hence they have this black spots, or "moles".

Unless its small little blacks spots every where , like ich in the form that is black, then its an infection. If it looks mole-like, its alright. Still trying to find the site, will post when i find it.

The black patches could be a disease known as black spot disease. Read abt it before in liveaquaria.com or reef central can't remember.

As for the color fading, the reason could be due to water parameters. Higher calcium shld help. It happened to my clowns before and i got advice to increase calcium level.

Hope it helps :)

Btw, I hate to say this, but if both ur pairs of percula clowns unfortunately up lorry (TOUCH WOOD), I trying to sell mine away cos i no time to care for them.

PM me if u interested (dun mean to hijack here) ;)
