SRC Member Daniel Poh Yang Zheng Posted February 6, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2015 Hi, I have got a Rainbow R250, which I set up as a marine tank, I did the test 5 in 1 test.. ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate is all okie.. Salinity is abt 1.018.. I also have got a dymax iq skimmer installed too. Yesterday when I add in my fishes - 2 clowns, 1 damsel and 1 dottyback.. They look fine and they were feeding.. But this morning, I found them to be gasping, breathing quite fast and with gills opening and closing.. Abt 7am.. May I know what is wrong? Or any idea what is wrong.. Is it an overload? SRC Member diki88 Posted February 6, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2015 when u set up the tank? sounds like ammonia issues. qianjun
1.018 is no issue for fish. Most likely is the acclimatization process, pH n temp change.
SRC Member Snoopyhamburger Posted February 6, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2015 Ammonia and Nitrite has to be a flat 0 btw Quote steak pls
Moderators thomas_lim Posted February 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted February 6, 2015 Are the fishes still eating normally? Rapid breathing is also a sign of bacteria infection. Care to share how old is your tank Like a few bros who had asked. Could be a new tank syndrome. Quote Tom
SRC Member Daniel Poh Yang Zheng Posted February 6, 2015 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2015 It is an old tank.. Took over second hand.. Had a blenny n a turbo snail inside orginally... SRC Member Kingking Posted February 7, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 7, 2015 Get live rocks to quicken the process of cycling and u may save the fishes hopefully. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love angel
How big is the tank? You add 4 fish at one go, there will be ammonia spike and disease can transmit easily wo QT if it is a small tank,
SRC Member Daniel Poh Yang Zheng Posted February 8, 2015 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 8, 2015 I used a hydrometer... It is a nano tank.. There wasn't a ammonia spike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
marine reefer
Bro if your sg level is 1.018 no point add live rocks. ..cos the living thing inside the l8ve rock will die as the sg level is too low for them...need atleast a 1.020.. SRC Member RayL Posted February 11, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2015 I used a hydrometer... It is a nano tank.. There wasn't a ammonia spike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Bro hydrometer is inaccurate. Invest in a refractrometer. From my understanding fishes breath easier with lower salinity. Your salinity might be too high.
SRC Member Bulldozer Posted February 11, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2015 Probably uneaten food .. Ammonia ..
SRC Member RayL Posted February 11, 2015 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2015 By the way my fowlr tank salinity is 1.018 and fishes have no problem breathing. Live rocks are still alive. Certain tools u should not save as they r essential. I learn the hard way and I hope u dont.
