Algae in pipe

Hi,

I have a translucent pipe from a powerhead to skimmer. As you can imagine thro' time, the pipe will be clogged with algae. Periodically, I will "flush" the pipe to remove all visible waste.

Would it help if I were to replace the translucent pipe with a opaque one so that no light can penetrate to sustain the growth of the algae ?

Thanks for any advise.

I'm of the opinion that we should use the translucent ones and try to clean the pipe as much as we can since we don't want the gunk to build up and constrict the flow, which might also affect the efficiency of the skimmer.

Morgan cleans his hose by putting a green cleaning scrub in the hose and using a power hose to 'power-flush' the scrub out the other end, whilst cleaning it.

(very much like pulling a 5 piece rod through the barrel ... :P )

Morgan has a way of cleaning the hoses. He stuffs a piece of green scrub into the hose then uses water pressure from a water hose connected to the mains to push it out the other side. When the scrub goes through the hose, it will push out the algae. Just have to 'pull-thru' a few times.

This is how i clean my pipes.

1. Get a small bottle brush.

2. Thick fishing line. About 40pounds.

Get 2 pscs of line, longer than your pipes.

Tie one line to the bottle brush end and the other to the other side of the brush.

Push one end of the line through the tube till the other end and pull untill the brush goes to the other end then pull the other line to push the brush the other way, like flossing your teeth :D

Hope this helps.
