2026 maintenance is not hard.. try the ones without the individual trays... ;)

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

I only clean and wash the filter media and not the ceramic ring of bio home etc.

The ceramic rings are supposed to facilite the grow of good bacteria to reduce NO2 and NO3 etc.

ya.. tot so too.. luckily i nv wash my medias.. only sponge and the cannister. thnks.

Everything's sold. Back in 2yrs time.

yar true... you try mantaining 2213.. you will regret buying it.. Firstly ,no tray.. Secondly , It have no valuve to stop the water.. so water keeps gushing out and the floor will be sticky ;) .. Lastly.. no pump provided. Need to suck..water will gushed out too... MUM will scold..:evil::evil:;);)

Yeah my canister is either 2213 or 2216, although the maintenance is not easy, but it give you the same result with other type. Try my tips, you just need a rubber band to tight the in and out flexible pipe, and when you finish the cleaning job, firstly open the inflow pipe to fill the chamber and wait until the water comes out from the out hole and then quickly put the outflow pipe, then your canister will work properly again. About the cleaning media, i always clean the foam filter and changed the carbon active, also clean half of the bioring.

hi guys,

the last piece of advice i've heard was to put nothing but a coarse sponge, a fine sponge, polyfilter, carbon & rowaphos into ur cannister. as those ceramic rings, ehiem substrate, coral chips, etc will trap detritus resulting in high nitrates.

most likely i will give it a try this weekend.

I read from somewhere that cannister filters are the best nitrate generators.

Also, if you want to retain those nitrifying bacterias, shouldn't wash with tap water coz the chlorine will kill them and you have to wait for sometime before the useful bacteria colonies come back. In the meantime, probably you'll have ammonia/nitrite spike.

i've used my cannister filters for my planted freshwater plants and after 2 years, i opened up, it's still cleaned. Lots of nitrates generated for my planted tank.
