Big bully - Purple Tang

Hi,

My tank has been running more than 3 months.

PT fat and healthy.

However when I put in any other tangs, have tried powder blue, naso n blue tang

All got wacked till got ich n die....

Any way to solve this except selling this PT away.

Put him in an isolation box. Then when feeding then other fishes, feed them close to this isolation box so they get used to each other.

Ensure that the new fishes have found their own homes and are comfortable before U let PT out.

1) buy fish that is bigger than it

2) when introduced new fish, put the PT in a breeder box

3) rearrange the rock work when introduce new fish

4) buy a trigger fish and see how it bullies the PT...

My pt was added last and so far all live harmony.. Breeder box works well..

Put all the new fishes together at once so that PT dunno who to whack / take turn to whack

Reduce the stresses of each fish

Put mirror at the tank side wall. If the PT go for it, the new added fish will have some time to get well in ur tank.

PT is the current alpha. Difficult to train his temper unless u change him out. I had PT who terrorised whole tank (include other tank mates, not just tangs)...after removing him (sold), all tank mates started swimming happily ever after...until the next alpha takes over

PT is your "Mr In charge". But not all PT are like that. you can perhaps feed it some seaweed? It will be too busy snacking on it that it forgets to bully his tank mates.

Haha! I do intend to keep a trigger fish one day (If I get approval for a 6ft by HDB). And hopefully train them not to touch my corals.

I once have a picasso trigger fish in a four feet LPS tank, it won't touch coral but touch everything beside it, from anthias to clam to shrimp to crab... makes me wonder whether what I bought is a trigger or a shark...

Try the seaweed method or put red bamboo to allow it to graze and soon, it will lose focus on tank mates

I had 3 red bamboo n feed seaweed. No use. It will nip the seaweed n chase the others away. Then go back n eat n chase....

I think I hv to rescape my rocks...if not I hv to get another leader to lead this leader...

I see, then you can try adding a few new tank mates at one go

My yellow tangs were aggressive to my new purple tang, so no choice,I added 3 PT at one go...after a couple of days, they are ok already

Currently my tank only contain YT n PT that are taking over the whole tank.

Both my pdt n Naso got whacked !
