I think at southern islands bah .. I used to have a small speedboat at punngol .. depending on the lenght of the boat .. u need to have certain license like ppcdl .. advance ppcdl .. day skipper .. coastal skipper .. yacht master. cost of maintaining of boats is fairly expensive.

interesting! is maintenance difficult and can it be done by the owner or have to send for servicing. do speedboats have a direction finder? also if I want to go to malaysian waters how to clear customs lol

I was happy to own a boat. Then I discovered I was happier to sell the boat. My advice: prepare to get yourself dirty and learn as much as possible on boat maintenance, esp the basic engine care and maintain to avoid unforseen additional expenses. L

Also, visit the marinas and talk to those boat owners who are there. Talk to the mechanics as well, you never know you can uncover a whole lot of tips and knowledge. Take your time and collect as much info as possible before get the boat.

Visit boat forums and pretend to be an interested buyer and go for sea trials to understand the different boat functioning. BUT control yourself during the sea trials and not make hasty decisions. I was one of the those which fell in love with one and made some impulse decision to buy.

ml708: cleaning up is very tiring. some basic maintaince can be done urself, engine and electronics are usually done by more pro third party. u can install a GPS cum depth finder. Our ppcdl is only port limit, we will most likely not travel out of the country unless u have an experience skipper to drive it for u. they will know the petrol top up places, custom clearance and berthing in different countries.
