Was just wondering how many weeks/ a rough gauge as to whether the invertebrates or fishes will survive in the tank? A week that it is fine and eating? Doesn't display erratic behaviour?

Hmm like shrimps are supposedly sensitive and if they are the first to die it usually means something is wrong with the water? Not taking cyanide poisoning into consideration.

Depending on type of fish.

But generally first step, if they are feeding well, looks "comfortable" in the tank meaning not scared, hiding all the time, not chased, picked upon, then they should be fine.

Then watch if they maintain weight. When they have established their home in the tank, feeling so safe and comfortable, many of the fish will even feed from your hand. They will smart enough to "recognize" feeding time.

Then the next, some fish will lay eggs and produce offsprings. This is the ultimate thriving.

if they have shed several times and no drastic changes on your water condition. i always hand feed my skunk shrimp with cut prawn so they wont steal food from my sun corals every night.

@solasido: yup but then some times when certain species are stress they will spawn too.

@ Drahc: I have read that on the western forum but some say that yes molting is good while other says they can molt under stress too. Like my fire shrimp has molted frequently since I got them abt 5 weeks ago.

Thanks bro. Was just wondering because my first time venturing to marine and before i started there seems to have some difficulty to it as compared to freshwater keeping. Perhaps a reason to why less people shun away from marine keeping. I am asking because like all hobbyist we find satisfaction when the fish is healthy in the tanks. Some tips would be great that is why i hope to learn more from everyone here.

yes its true thats why you need to make sure water parameters are good and the shrimps are feeding. mine always climb the rocks when its feeding time and immediately grab the cut market shrimp out of my hand.
