need help for zoas

Hi guys..recently about 2 weeks ago, i brought 5 frags of zoas for a reefer. But after 2 weeks, the zoas is not opening up yet. I havent dip it before and i check for pest and all alot of times in day and night but there is nothing.

These are my parameter

KH-11.2 / 3.99 meq/L

Im using a 36w full spectrum par38 on them now. The reefer i brought the zoas from is using T5. Could it be that the zoas need time to get use to the LED light? Any bro enounter this situation before?

Are you using a refractometer to measure your salinity?

For me, my Zoas tend to close up when salinity is on the high side (>1.026+) but opens up within a few minutes once I dilute it down.

What about flow? Zoas prefer low to medium flow

Could your tank be too "clean"?

Shift your zoas to a low light low flow area first. Until they open up then based on their reaction you shift accordingly

In my experience they do best in moderate lighting & flow just enough to move the polyp...but not strong enough to close it....

If any zoas start closing one or heads ..I would move them to another location ...once all polyps close...its not a good sign already...

When he refers to feed he means to your livestock. I believe not all z&p feeds. They growth depends more on lighting.

But sometimes I just target feed them with oyster egg

Sometimes my Zoas are closed for a long time. I think they are damaged and they recover maybe a week or so after.

Is your refractometer calibrated? I made this mistake on first day and my salinity went up to 1.3++ after i calibrated it. good thing i dont have any LS and just cycling.

I will agree palythoa eats. Zoas mostly dont. Not all zoas when closed up means they are eating.

Kh might be the problem...a bit high and maybe the previous tank parameters are lower (fluctuation of water parameters occurs)...then zoa might close due to "shock"

Faced with similar problem... my Zoas started closing one by one... water parameters stable... but nevertheless went ahead to do 10% water change and shifted from left side of tank to right side. Then they open up... so far so good for me...
