Coral Chips & Oyster shells ( Purpose?? )

Got a few items from a nice reefer here. Bags of ceramic rings , oyster shells & Corals chips ( medium sized , like those dried corals ).

anyone here noes what the purpose of the oyster shells & corals chips?

will the coral chips have any effect on the PH of the water ? and will it increase necessary nutrients for corals to thrive?

coral chip can helps to buffer the pH to a desire level.

Think oyster shells is either raise or lower ph.. Both does not have an effect on nutrients for corals

Given that coral chips and oyster shells are primarily made up on calcium carbonate, they will likely increase the pH.
