Crab in my LR

Actually the water condition crabs can survive in is quite bad.. Overfeeding tanks, dirty waters blah blah.. If your water is clean, the crabs that comes along with your LR will die off soon.. Give it a week or so..

Blueterror, is there flesh in the shells? Could they be moults?

Rock crabs can survive in dirty high nitrate water. But they will be happier in clean water.

Those broken dead crab bodies are just their moulted shell. It means that they are healthy and growing very well in your tank.

Is there a way to make sure every LR we introduce into the main tank is free from CRABS !!!

ALso what to remove besdie crabs and mantis shrimps from LR ?

Thanks

Fish lice/isopods. Anything smelling rotten, rub it off with a tooth brush. I think it's a good idea to buy a bit of extra saltwater from the retailer to rinse the rock and clean it well. Then there are less worries about die off than if freshwater is used and you are self-encouraged to clean the rock better. Also, take new rock and new coral such as pacyclavularia (star polyps) that you buy and shake it out of water very well. When I shook the star polyps rock I bought, 2 crabs came out and an isopod. Later, a brittle star came out when I dipped the star polyp colony back in saltwater for washing.

Erm.. Thats partly why we call them LR... If the rocks we buy only got coraline algae, then we would have called it Algae rock or Coraline rock..

The term LR refers to the living organisms that comes together with it.. So it's like putting $1 in those toy egg machine and turning the crank.. You won't know what you get...

Do we really need to remove those crabs? :erm: I don't see them as pest.. <_< Anyway, they won't get big. :heh::heh::heh:

They aren't a nuisance if you have no medium sized snails, fish that sleep in holes and you don't mind them stealing food from corals. Other than that they are pretty good scavengers.

I was joking when I mentioned to place a Mantis Shrimp in there.......

Please don't cos its one of the most stupid thing to do IMO.....

Trust me!! a Mantis in your reef is something you will never like.....
