For a small nano tank, i will got for kalk , for a med size tank ( 2ft to 3ft) i will go for dosing of the three part. Larger tank ( 4ft to 6ft ), i will go for CR . And for super big tank, it will be best to use a CR with kalk.

i 2nd Larry's recommendation. For big thriving tank with lots of SPS. Good to go CR with KR. KR will compensate the low PH from your CR and also support KH level.

Folks with large thriving SPS tank know the KH got suck up very very quickly.

Couldn't agree more! Small nano tanks can also use manual 2 part dosing with frequent wc to maintain mag.

Thank bro Harlequin, thomas_Lim, Ashwin and tofubox for sharing your thought.

Understand Kalk and CR reactor dose the important elements in balance whilst if we do manual dosing can result in imbalance mix if not careful. How true is this?

Hi sherman, if your talking about trace elements, than yes CR will provide a small amount of trace elements, this is due to the co2 melting the old skeleton of corals which previously had used such elements for their growth. That said, it does not cover ur full range of trace elements, and its contribution is minimal to say the least.

If you are talking about balanced KH and CA dosing in equal amounts, than yes CR will dose in balance. Manual dosage will require u to be able to calculate the dosage amount yourself. There are calculators online which can help u achieve this for better accuracy. Dont be overly concerned about manual dosage, as it is, in fact much easier to dose back to a balance than using a cr, based on accurate calculations. Ultimately, I like using CR, and just manual 2 part dosing to achieve my required balance parameters.

  • 2 weeks later...

So dosing 2 parts or running CA confirm will get balance KH and CA require ratio. While manual dosing of 3 elements while constant monitoring

Dosing 2 part is very flexible, you are controlling KH and CA individually. Hence, there is also a chance of not getting the correct "balance" if not set properly.

Calcium Reactor will be able to to dose in "balance". But if you need to change (raise/lower) parameter, I find that CR is not so easy to tune.

This is my thought.
