Mangroves- Anybody know where to get them

Read abt Mangroves that day and its use in Refugium for nutrient export..

May I know where to get them or anyone tried them before?

If I remembered correctly, the mangroove they are talking about is miracle mud.

It is those mangrove seedling lar.... Didnt see it ard before... Some go to beaches to look for them.. You can try...

I saw a few mangrove at w*t*r circl* at tyrwhitt road.

U can get from changi beaches but need to quarantine it before putting in your tank.

using ferns will be a good nutriet exporter....... i hv asked the owner of coralfarm this question b4 and the reply i got was fern.

There was a discussion previously, basically you need A LOT of mangroves for nutrient export to be substantial enough... so in the end it's not really worth it

I don't understand why you guys just love to spend money, where you can get it for free at our local beaches, and for those living pasir ris river or punggol river and especially changi beach or best: Sungei Buloh

u just go beach walk walk can see le.. if u know the man at the fisherman village seafood that part.. ask fromhim he also will give one.. but u need alot to export the nutrients.. and u need good lighting like MH lol..

my biggest problem initially was not knowing how a mangrove pod look like saw in pic yes, but not the real thing. Go to those shop to look see first.

theres alot of mangrove swamps at Pair Ris can pick seedlings for free.... but honestly would like to know which LFS brings that in

bit sensitive never ask. Those from shop looks sightly diff from those at the beach. maybe different species?

So you've seen it selling at LFS? Where? I think those are the Red species type which seems popular. Don't know what the local ones you see at the beach are....

got mine from WxtxxCxxclx. Should be red mangrove. The one I saw at local beach has flattened on the root side and top tip also slightly different. Only been to the section behind NTUC resort at Pasir Ris, probably there are other species around.

i had 3 in my refugium, lighted 8 hrs daily. Watching them grow is worse than trying to watch grass grow. Eventually, they withered and died, one after another. For effect, you'd need quite a few of them. Sungei Buloh has plenty. West coast park is another area, but please quarantine your mangroves well and don't introduce pests to your tank. I got mine on a beach @ Sentosa while on a family trip.

Bro nivlac, do you sill having any surviving mangrove? how big does it grow? do you do any pruning?

Bro joachimsim, taking public property from state owned land is pretty sure not legal. maybe needing to get certain licence. Go buy from the shops if you want to sleep easier.

Mangroves again?

They don't grow fast or use enough nutrients to make a dent in your nitrates. Try 1 pod/gallon and leave it for about a year under intense light, maybe that will work. Plant light to them is a joke. They grow under the intense tropical sun, so 1000W MH won't be enough for them.

Agree, mangrove grow too slow to be efficient nutrient export. Surviving would not be easy (possible?) without strong light. I keep them just to add some diversity to my tank. Probably cheapest thingy in my tank & survising the longest... haha...
