SRC Member Sea hare Posted November 6, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted November 6, 2014 Ok.. Call me names call me anything!!! I don't test my parameters.. I know water quality by just looking at the tank.. My take now is that my PHOS has gone up.. How do I know? Algae on the glass every two days. There was Cyano earlier but have more or less got rid of it.. Any ideas why PHOS is high? Have done two water changes at 25-% and 50%. SRC Member pcw Posted November 6, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted November 6, 2014 How do you know that its phosphates and not nitrates? Cyano thrives on phosphates and can fix elemental nitrogen dissolved. Most other types of algae (less cyano which is really a bacteria), need both phosphates and nitrates to grow. So if you're saying that cyano is gone but other types of algae are thriving... I don't what led to the conclusion that it is due to phosphates. Anyway if youre convinced that its phosphates, a few common reasons could be because of phosphates leaching from the rocks or simply just over feeding. SRC Member Sea hare Posted November 6, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 6, 2014 Thanks PCW. Am a gut person and am sure it is PHOS.. I don't overfeed ever.. Ensure entire food is gobbled up. Yes looks like the rocks but how do u tackle that?
SRC Member asg Posted November 6, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted November 6, 2014 Fish poo can result in high nitrate too. So did your gut tells you your PO4 is how many ppm now... Joke aside, if you want to confirm your gut, i can lead your my salifert no3 and po4 test kit lah. Quote 子非鱼,焉知鱼之乐... (you are not the fish so you...) Then: my 4FT low tech selling off tank... SRC Member asg Posted November 6, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted November 6, 2014 Compare to 10 years back when i first started reefing, i think technology and research has make reefing comparatively easy now...
