oceania
Have reefing for 3 yrs so far and tank started leaking. Is it a norm for silicon to wear of ard 3 yrs?
Edmund Koh
Usually that's the last thing to fail on you. Do u mind sharing your tank size and glass thickness?
oceania
3 x 2 x2 FT (10mm)
Edmund Koh
Should be able to last ba. 10mm for that size is quite ok though I know some who will go for 12mm for that size. Do u scrub at ur silicon often?
oceania
I don't. I usually use the magnetic scrub but not at the sides. N the suspected area of leak is at the back of the tank which I have no access to actually
Edmund Koh
Then I think have to blame it on luck already. Although 3 years is long, most tanks I know (especially big customised tanks) would last way longer then 3 years. But regardless .. I think now the important thing is to find a tank maker who can make a replacement tank for u so u can transfer your lifestock over. You might also need to get a new stand if it has been soaking up your tank water at the moment.
oceania
The stand of my tank is made of chennai wood. I see the water dripping from an opening out. Should be ok right?
Edmund Koh
I wouldn't be the best person to advise on this but I would not bet my new tank on wood that has been soak before
Guest
A good workmanship tank silicon should be able to last 10 years or more. But again it depends on various factor.
