SRC Member iskay Posted September 14, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted September 14, 2014 You can learn from Henry of ML. He kept octopi and cuttlefishes well in his tank. SRC Supporter SubzeroLT Posted September 14, 2014 SRC Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2014 One method I use is to have the destination tank water dripped in during the acclimatization process. Normally, I have a small container of water set at a higher level with an air hose siphoning water into the container with the new fish. Drip rate controlled by one of those plastic air adjustment gadgets. This process typically takes 2 or more hours. 1 Quote Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/mysliceofnature/

Welly
For me just put the bag in the tank for half an hour and put the fish in the tank. I did that also to my octopus I bought from irwana last week and it is very stable now.
Welly
And it is my first time keeping octopus. I learnt my lesson when I have too fine sand as the octopus keep messing up the sand, but now I don't use the fine sand anymore

It does not account for sudden ph, salinity shock etc. Consider yourself lucky that you got away with it. Others may not be as lucky as you. Welly
Acutally all my fishes survive with this
SRC Member solasido Posted September 15, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted September 15, 2014 Actually some live stocks are more hardy and some are more sensitive. Just need to understand their requirements before hand. I used to acclimatise by putting 50% tank water and 50% LFS water for 1 hour. But I noticed that especially Anthias could not make it. Now I do 2 hours slowly dripping tank waters. Starfish is also super sensitive, and could disintegrate and die within a day without proper acclimatisation. tench1
Also, the sg level from lfs are different fron our tank. Some could be slightly below i.e 1.019 I will slowly adjust till the level is the same.
A. Quarium
Slow acclimation would be good. If you order the water in your tank from the same shop, then it should survive after 10 min acclimatize. If not check ammonia etc. If corals can survive and thrive in those water conditions and temperatures, then so should a octopus. In theory. Real life maybe not. Planted
I have not tried any sensitive fish (or that I know of) but for all invertebrate, I will usually take longer time to acclimatize them. I did not use drip method although that's what I would prefer. what I do: 1 ) put bag floating in tank for 30mins 2) Open back, roll and pour 1-2 small bowl of water from main tank into the bag depending on size of bag. (1 bowl amount = 1.5 shooter glass amount) 3) Top up with 1 - 2 bowl every 15mins. (stop if livestock behaves weird, increase oxygen which somehow works for me) 4) continue until bag full, then pour away half 5) repeat process until bag full 6) pour away, transfer livestock into main tank(if you can trust source, if not quarantine tank) This I did, and been doing. not the best way, but within my ability to acclimatize them slow and steady. And for the above livestock invertebrates, I will pour lesser water as they are often more sensitive. Successfully acclimatize starfishes, shrimps, crabs, urchins, and don't know what else. I recommend drip method too.
