sump = urh. an extention of the tank so that water volume is increased? normally mechnical filtration and protein skimming takes place here.

Sump is basically for more water, hide your equipments, dosing of additives and others(easier to dose). Part of the sump(one compartment), you can make it as a refugium.

If you dont have sump, you can use hang on refugium from Ian.

sump n refugium r too diff things..

sump is sorta lyk a filter, a storage compartment, where u keep all ur skimmers...powerheads...etc...

refugium can be intergrated into a sump... or it can be seperated...

refugium..from its name, suggest a safe heaven... whereby safe keeping those organisms tat r usually preyed in the main tank.

it acts as a place to cultivate nutrients to be exported to e main tank...
