SRC Member IshDeOne Posted September 7, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted September 7, 2014 Need some advice fellow brothers, How do you guy usually do ur water changes? Purchase from local LFS, use marine decholrinator Or use an RO/DI unit.. Cuz I'm planning my setup slowly n i don wan to miss out on key stuff since water is the primary resource that has to be stable.. Also i would to noe if reefers using the lighting meant for corals, are experiencing high electricity bills cuz of light thy uae.
tofubox
Hi bro, all depends on yourself. You have 3 options, its all up to you. 1. Purchase premixed salt water from LFS 2. Purchase natural salt water from LFS 3. Mix your own salt water with an rodi / di unit Lighting for corals is definitely going to be more expensive than just lights for a fish only tank. The wattage and period of usage is increased. Quote I Love Stagsss
SRC Member IshDeOne Posted September 7, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 7, 2014 Can i mix my own saltwater without a rodi unit? Lyk use those marine dechlorinator n then mix salt to the water aftr tat
Arronpsw
I'm sure you could do that just that there might be problem down the road likr nuisance algae
Welly
I did my water change without any equipment. What I do is just put salt and anti chlorine and pump into my tank. And all doing find. I have been doing this for 3 months. Even with quarantine tanks. Algae will grow in 2 to 3 days but I just scrum them off. I AM USING FOR FOWLR TANK SO I DON'T KNOW FOR CORALS. tofubox
If for corals, i highly suggest u use either DI or RODI water. This will also depend alot on your housing area water supply. My house has a tds of 70. And i know others who have 100+, or as low as even 9tds. As welly mentioned, for fish only tank, it isnt a problem, i lasted 1 full yr using water direct from the tap when i had my fowlr. But i wont do the same for a coral tank, i learnt my lesson the last time round. Quote I Love Stagsss
SRC Member asg Posted September 10, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted September 10, 2014 I use seachem prime with tapwater but i let the mixed saltwater run for few days before water change. Touch wood, so far so good for my mixed reef. Quote 子非鱼,焉知鱼之乐... (you are not the fish so you...) Then: my 4FT low tech selling off tank... shaohao85
For reef tank I recommend DI filter for nano tanks and RODI for larger tanks .. sea salt mix is better compared to NSW .. for FOWLR use NSW from LFS is enough with top up of anti chlorine mixed tap water ... personally when I change water from my reef tank I will use it for my fowlr ... so far so good no issues at all ... SRC Member Ccccz Posted December 3, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 3, 2014 Bro, WC is painful to me. hahaha. When I started, I lugged NSW from iwarna. The spillage of salt water on my car boot made me cringed. tired lah when carrying the packets so I tend to be clumsy. Luckily auntie very nice give me Styrofoam box to minimize damage........ then I progress to RO. lovely! comfort at your own house but must salt mix la. I get hugh tubs to store. get long hoses with pumps to pump out and pump in the water in and out of tank. get taps to control the input and output of water. Of coz there are other excellent ideas out there to "automate" this process but currently, I'm happy with the ease this method has provided me. SRC Member DUCADOS Posted December 2, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted December 2, 2016 Don't lfs provide nsw delivery anymore? I remember last time iwarna charge $80 per wc. But u need to drain out the % of the water u wanna change before they arrived. So when they arrived, they straight away top up for u Quote Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean! With carbon your resin will give you more litres of TDS 0 water

SRC Member Raffael Hamzah Posted December 12, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2016 Resin without carbon will not last long ?? Wait a minute everything have expire resin u can find at carousel at 44.90 of 5 litre resin i been using industrial unit just resin and give me tds 0Sent from my E5553 using Tapatalk
SRC Member reefbuilder Posted December 12, 2016 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2016 I am not refering to expiry date. What I meant was with carbon the same volume of resin will give you more litres of DI water than without. But if you feel that you are happy with the amount of DI you get for the $$ spent on resin alone then its ok.
snake
I tried using only resins but my TDS is above 100! Do I need to rinse it before uss to achieve 0 TDS?Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
